Northstar 2008 Merlot Walla Walla Valley

A bit chewy, but nicely packed with dark berry, cigar and tar flavors, which persist with intensity on the balanced finish. Best from 2014 through 2018.

Prickly tannins and a tang of acidity play against blackberry and cedary spice flavors in this firm red, which is nicely filled out, finishing with persistence. Drink now through 2015.

This is a Merlot that demands food from the grill. Smoky, toasty oak character needs a like-flavored foil on the plate to reach harmony on the palate. It is a blend of 78% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot aged on 60% new French oak. Look for ripe cherry, caramel, smoky tar and cassis with a finish of vanilla and coconut.

- “Number One recommended Thanksgiving wine” - Seattle Weekly - November 18, 2011

No. 1: Northstar Merlot This is what The Wino's going to be pouring next Thursday, a stellar red that's my go-to special occasion bottle. It's got great fruit that goes on and on like that last note played in that Beatles song on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. A Day In The Life. There's also some spice notes that will warm your tongue and make that turkey taste like filet mignon. Yeah, I'm just yanking your drumstick. What I really love about this wine is that it doesn't overshadow the food. It knows its place and that's on the Thanksgiving table, within arm's reach of The Wino. Happy eating/drinking everybody!

Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Aromas of blackberry, licorice, menthol and bitter chocolate, along with some superripe suggestions. Dense, suave and fine-grained, with very dark flavors of currant, bitter chocolate, and violet.
