Northstar’s commitment to the creation of world-class Merlot from Washington is demonstrated in the creation of Northstar Premier. This extremely limited production wine is sourced from the best vineyards in the region and can be enjoyed now but will age gracefully for many years to come.
The 2011 vintage experienced cool temperatures during spring which delayed bud break and bloom by three to four weeks. Consistently warm summer temperatures lengthened the ripening period resulting in harvest starting three weeks later than normal. Without the growing season’s typical temperature spikes that surpass 100 degrees Fahrenheit, grapes ripened very evenly with the required sugar levels and ideal physiological maturity.
Fruit from top vineyard sites was carefully picked and fermented in separate small lots while awaiting selection for inclusion in Northstar Premier. In 2011, Merlot from Stone Tree, Cold Creek and Beverly were chosen to meet the expectations of the creation of the blend.
